Into the Wild…

So I thought I’d share our little camping trip that we went on last week with my in-laws. To give you a little background story, the below photos were shot at the Gemfields/Rubyvale.

My father in-law has been going here since about 1969 to fossick for gems… namely sapphires. He started bringing his son with him when he was just a toddler and they have continued to come almost every year since then. They have found plenty of gems in the years they have visited the Gemfields but nothing we can retire on… yet! I think they keep going to get away from the daily bustle of life, to enjoy each others company and the chance that they might make it rich! (plus my husband is one of those people who always has to be busy working and so digging a hole is his type of holiday!)

They have a claim out here (a block of land that they lease). The site doesn’t have running water or power, but you are permitted to put up a temporary dwelling, so they purchased an old caravan, build a toilet/shower and added a deck. (The caravan is only small so we still took out our tent as well)

This was the first time we took our daughter Cameron and I know my husband hopes that it is the start of many more trips back with her…
